Dennis Chambers
Ask almost any musician to name a handful of the top drummers in the world
today, and odds are the list will include Dennis Chambers.
Dennis is a phenomenon, and has been for years – we first saw him live
in the mid-80’s and we’ve been enthusiasts ever since. He started playing
at age 4, gigging at 6, and joined Parliament/Funkadelic when he was 18,
moving on later to play with David Sanborn, John Scofield, and Mike Stern.
These days, he tours with Santana and makes appearances with many bands, including
his own group, Niacin. He has performed and recorded with Carl Filipiak,
Steely Dan, John McLaughlin, Bill Evans, Steve Kahn, Bob Berg, Kevin Eubanks,
Tower of Power, George Duke, Maceo Parker, Scott Henderson, and Randy and
Michael Breckers, among many others. His career has taken him around the
globe for performances, clinics and appearances.
It’s hard to say whether Dennis is at his finest when he’s playing the
pocket or exploding in a solo, defining the groove or stretching out. He
manages to be remarkably versatile while simultaneously putting his unmistakable
imprint on everything he plays, from fusion to bop, from funk to Latin. We
think there’s no player quite like him in the world, and we’re immensely
proud whenever he’s playing one of our drums.
